Mountain spirit

Sally and I (Steve) Jeep-ed into the mountains by our house. A long, climbing gravel-rock road led us up into a large bowl where a great deal of mining had been done. Many roads were cut into the bottom and faces of the bowl, now deserted and scarred.

Sally had a long conversation with the mountain, and I also sensed that the spirit of the mountain felt sad and angry. Too many times people had extracted its rich resources without giving thanks. The mountain had given up its bounty, only to be used and forgotten.

I couldn’t leave it that way. I remembered a Bible verse: “The mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.” I thought to myself about the mountain, “You may be down in the dumps and it’s easy to stay there because of what’s been done to you. But we need to raise the level of your vibration by getting you to feel good.”

I started to clap my hands vigorously for a bit, then shouting, “Thank you Creator, for this beautiful mountain. Come on mountain (spirit), clap your hands.”

We (the mountain and me) continued clapping for several minutes. I shouted thanks to the Creator for creating the earth and the mountain. Sally said, “Wow, that’s making a difference. The spirit of the mountain is starting to get uplifted; it is shifting!”

How often do you go into the mountains, use the mountains for recreation or even for business and not take a moment to give thanks to its spirit? Mountains are highly symbolic, reaching to the sky and putting roots deep into the earth. That is how we are to live, reaching skyward to the father and earthward to the mother.

Let’s give thanks with a small moment of reflection or a simple offering, giving the mountain spirit a big smile and thanks!!
