The Christ-Light Becomes Human

The minute someone mentions the word “Jesus,” people turn off. This is especially the case if someone mentions being a Christian. People reverse direction faster than Road Runner escaping the clutches of Coyote (meep meep!). But shouldn’t it be possible to talk about Jesus without turning people off? After all if truth is truth, he has some truth to offer us.

When I think of Jesus I think of the following terms: the Christ Light, the Christ Consciousness, the Christ Spirit, or the Christ of the Universe. So how does one go from all those Christ-phrases to Jesus? Fair question.

Whether we know it or not, when we use phrases like the Christ Light or Christ of the Universe, these are linked to the creation when Creator said, “Let there be …” It was at that moment in the creation narrative that the Christ materialized the spoken word by taking pure thought-energy and transforming it into matter to create the universe and everything in it--fire, air, water, and earth--including humankind who was made with female and male energy and sexuality as imagers of Creator. The Christ took pure energy and somehow alchemized it into quarks, photons, protons, electrons, bosons, atoms, molecules--you name it. Of course, the question is whether you believe that the creation of the universe would require some kind of an intelligent designer. Call it Creator, Source, the Ground of All Being, the I Am, Allah, the Tao. I do. Hence a Creator Christ.

Besides the Christ’s act of creation, the Christ of the universe might otherwise seem somewhat obscure to us if it were not for some helpful sources that reveal to us who this Christ was and is.  I won’t lie to you; these sources come from the Bible. But hear me out, don’t close the door on me. These statements are very provocative in what they state about the Christ. I think you’ll be interested in reading them. So I’m going to quote from a new book I just started to read called, First Nations Version, An Indigenous Translation of the New Testament. Check them out.

“Long ago, in the time before all days, before the creation of all things, the One who is known as [One Who Created the Universe] was there face to face with the Great Spirit. This One Who Created the Universe fully represents Creator and shows us who he is and what he is like. He has always been there from the beginning, for the One Who Created the Universe and Creator are one and the same. Through the One Who Created the Universe all things came into being, and not one thing exists that he did not create.” And then several sentences later it says, “He, the One Who Created the Universe, came down into this world.”

In a letter that Paul, the preacher, wrote, he said essentially the same thing about the One Who Created the Universe when he wrote, “He is the visible representation of our invisible Creator. All that the Father has [the Father refers to the Creator but Creator also includes a Mother Creator] belongs to this Son [the Son is the human/incarnated version of One Who Created the Universe]. He existed before creation and is above all created things. For it was in him that all things in the spirit-world above and the earth below were created, all things seen and unseen. Yes, even governments, rulers, powers, and authorities were all created by him and for him.” Then, “He is the one who is in first place and the head of all things. It is in him that all things come together and find their full meaning and purpose.”

The amazing story is that the One Who Created the Universe became human. The Christ Spirit incarnated in the man, Jesus, whom the First Nations Version refers to as “Creator Sets Free.” Fully God and fully man. To know Creator Sets Free is to know what Creator is like but in physical form. And what was reported about Creator Sets Free? “It is the story of how the Great Spirit chose Creator Sets Free (Jesus) from Seed Planter Village (Nazareth), and how the power of the Creator’s Spirit came to rest upon him. How he walked the land, with Creator at his side, doing good and healing all who were pushed down and crushed by the evil trickster.”

I’ll close with two thoughts. First, a friend said to me the other day that there is confusion about how we have Creator’s divine essence in us. Are we God or are we of God? He said, “I am not God, but God is me.” Wow, what an interesting way to describe the divine within us all as part of our essence. We are not THE Christ because we are the Christ’s creation. My kids are not me, their father, but they are from me. They are themselves but with me in them. And so we are all made of Christ but we are not THE Christ. It’s the Christ whom we worship and him in us.

Second, consider meditating on what it would have been like to meet Creator Sets Free, who had the power of the Spirit without limit and “who walked the land doing good and healing all who were pushed down.” Feeling pushed down a little lately? . . . I’m not above asking for help from the Christ Spirit, who was humanized in Jesus, who made you and me and “in whom all things come together and find their full meaning and purpose?” A simple asking is the best.
